Mark Kelly, born in Orange, New Jersey, is a politician, businessman, retired astronaut for NASA, and retired U.S. Navy captain. He has served as the junior United States senator from Arizona since 2020. He was selected as a NASA Space Shuttle pilot in 1996 after flying combat missions during the Gulf War as a naval aviator. He founded the nonprofit, Americans for Responsible Solutions, to advocate for gun control measures with his wife, former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, after she was shot and nearly killed in a 2011 assassination attempt. Mark Kelly and his identical twin brother, Scott Kelly, are the only siblings to have both traveled to space.
Scott Kelly, born in Orange, New Jersey, is an engineer, retired astronaut, and naval aviator. He commanded the International Space Station (ISS) on Expeditions 24, 45, and 46. In November, 2012, Kelly was selected for a year-long mission to the ISS. Scott Kelly and his identical twin brother, Mark Kelly, are the only siblings to have both traveled to space.
